The Courage Foundation is excited to join journalists, lawyers, activists and surveillance experts at this year’s Logan CIJ Symposium, 11-12 March at the BCC in Berlin. The 2016 conference is titled Challenge power! Building alliances against Secrecy, Surveillance & Censorship.
Courage will present a workshop on Friday 11 March at the lunch hour, titled ‘Hackers are Whistleblowers Too,’ in which we’ll explain one of our driving principles: the need to embrace hacktivists the way we do whistleblowers, as all truthtellers in the information chain are vital and worthy of our solidarity and assistance. We’ll give an update on our most urgent beneficiary cases, host an interactive discussion of how to better support hacktivists and conduct a live video-link Q&A with Courage beneficiary Lauri Love.
Courage advisory board member Thomas Drake will be on the following panel, “Can you hear me now?” at 4pm, with Cage, Annegret Falter, Jesselyn Radack, Holger Stark and moderated by Gavin MacFadyen. The next panel, at 8pm, is ‘Fighting the Global Arena’ with Courage trustee Julian Assange.
In association with the Logan Symposium, a special final cut premiere of the film “Free Speech Fear Free” will be screened at 2pm on Thursday, 10 March, at the Kino International, Karl-Marx-Allee 33 · 10178 Berlin. Filmmaker Tarquin Ramsey’s documentary explores hat freedom of speech means today, followed by an open discussion on “how to create greater agency and collaborations to forestall the manifest erosion of fundamental freedoms.” Ramsey, actor Jude Law, as well as Jacob Appelbaum, Jérémie Zimmermann, Elektropunk and Diani Barreto will be in attendance.
